A new coffee chain is coming to caffeinate the Northwest Indiana market.
Scooter's Coffee has filed plans to build a new drive-thru coffee shop at 8455 Wicker Ave. in St. John. It will be located across from Lake Central High School, just south of the Hands On car wash.
The Nebraska-based coffee shop chain has more than 800 locations across the country, growing rapidly in recent years through franchising. It's the fifth-largest coffee chain overall and the second-largest drive-thru coffee chain.
Scooter's Coffee has multiple locations in Indiana in Fortville, Nappanee, Franklin, Portland, Decatur, Logansport, Bluffton, Wabash, Madison, Kendallville, Elkhart, Mishawaka, Evansville, Batesville and Terre Haute. Its closest location to Northwest Indiana is in New Carlisle, just across the county line from LaPorte County.

Co-founders Don and Linda Eckles started Scooter's Coffee in Bellevue, Nebraska in 1998. The name refers to being able to "scoot in and scoot out." It puts smiley face stickers on its drinks.
It sells a variety of hot, iced and blended coffees, including its signature Carmelicious. The menu includes drip coffee, cold brew and a full range of espresso drinks like lattes, cappuccinos, cafe au laits, Americanos and mochas. It sells a number of flavored lattes, including maple bourbon, turtle, pumpkin spice, candy bar and pumpkin chai. It offers dairy alternatives like oat, almond and coconut milk.
Scooter's sells teas, smoothies and infusion drinks with flavors like green apple, electric peach, strawberry lime and pineapple mint.
The food menu includes baked goods and breakfast items like breakfast burritos, a maple waffle sandwich, a bacon ciabatta sandwich, an everything bagel sandwich and egg bites.
It will compete in the Northwest Indiana market with coffee chains like Starbucks, Dunkin and Biggby Coffee, the Michigan-based chain that's been growing rapidly around the Region in many years.
The Tri-Town area also has local coffee shops like Twin Beans and Coffee Cabin in Schererville, and ReCharge Coffee Co. and the Daily Drip in Dyer.
